Monday 24th September – Lost and Found Hostel Panama.

The weather for climbing Volcan Baru like we had planned wasn´t ideal. We changed our plan instead and decided to head for the famous Lost and Found Hostel about 1 hour from David. This hostel is a bit of a destination in itself – there aren´t any towns nearby or any big attractions, only lots of jungle and walking tracks to explore which sounded right up our alley! We arrived in the afternoon and hiked 15 minutes up the steep hill to the hostel. It was a simple place with an amazing deck filled with hammocks, tables and great views! A perfect place to spend the afternoon reading our books and relaxing!

Tuesday 25th September

This morning we took a bus back in the direction of David in order to visit the Los Cangilones River Canyon. The bus driver dropped us off in the small town nearby and from there it was a short 1km walk down to the canyon. I didn´t have very high expectations for the place, usually local swimming places like this are pretty grotty but I was blown away by how cool this place was! A deep chasm in the rock allowed fast flowing water from the river pass through. It was really fun to jump down in to the river and be taken by the current out in to the more shallow pools on the other side. Luckily for us that the sun was out too and the water wasn´t too cold so we spent a couple of hours swimming and enjoying the water and sunshine. After a quick lunch back in town, we caught the bus back to the hostel just as the afternoon rains began. Thus it was a great excuse to have another relaxing afternoon enjoying the views and reading our book!

Wednesday 26th September.

Last day at the lost and found today. After breakfast we set off on the beginning of the treasure hunt which first took us up a very steep hill to a lookout where we could see all the way out to the Pacific Ocean. It was a really beautiful view out over all the lush green jungle but the way down was very steep and slippery! Unfortunately we didn´t have enough time to finish all the treasure hunt – we had a bus to catch back to Panama for our flight tomorrow. One last lunch of Nachos at the hostel and it was time to be back on the road – a long day of 8 hours in buses ahead!
